Why a small business needs a clear profit baseline
MRR describes the recurring revenue base. It does not describe what remains after running the business. AppsWorth asks for monthly operating profit and annualizes that figure. Hosting, software tools, support and acquisition expenses can make two products with the same MRR very different profit-based cases.
Keep a written explanation of which costs your profit figure includes. In particular, the calculator does not estimate a replacement salary for the founder or deduct the cost of hiring support automatically. If delegation will add costs, make a separate scenario using the resulting profit. Do not assume that lower founder hours can always be achieved at unchanged profit.
Worked example: a fictional solo SaaS
Assume $3,000 MRR, $2,000 monthly operating profit, 10% annual growth, 4% monthly churn, 100 paying customers, a largest customer at 12%, 25 founder hours per week, 20 months of history, a B2B model and Organic acquisition.
2.30 + 0.10 − 0.15 + 0 − 0.15 + 0 + 0.10 = 2.20×
$24,000 × 1.90–2.50 = $45,600–$60,000
This result follows the size-aware base multiple and six adjustments in AW-V0.3-2026. It is not a market average for micro SaaS. With these inputs, the selected Value Leak is founder dependency because the entered workload exceeds 20 hours per week.
What the improvement scenario leaves out
The built-in scenario changes founder workload from 25 to 15 hours per week and holds entered profit constant. That removes the −0.15 adjustment, producing a 2.35× central multiple and a $49,200–$63,600 modeled range. This is a conditional scenario, not a forecast or a promised $3,600 increase in sale proceeds.
If outsourcing costs $300 per month, a separate assessment should use $1,700 monthly profit. With the other example inputs and 15 founder hours, that gives $20,400 annual profit and a $41,820–$54,060 range. Improving transferability can cost money; the model does not resolve that tradeoff for you.
Build evidence of transferability
- Write a support runbook that another person can follow without asking you.
- Document billing, deployment, incident handling and renewal routines.
- List the tasks that depend on your personal accounts, knowledge or relationships.
- Track whether someone else can operate the product for a week, then record the actual hours and costs.
These are practical preparation steps, not extra variables secretly included in the score. The exit-readiness checklist separates model inputs from a broader handover review.
Common micro SaaS questions
Can a very young product be valued here?
The form accepts a business at least one month old, but a short history limits what the estimate can tell you. Under 12 months the model subtracts 0.25 from the multiple. Under 18 months it also flags limited operating history. Those different thresholds serve different outputs.
Does a high margin guarantee a high multiple?
No. Margin affects the financial-quality score. Profit determines the valuation anchor and base-size band, while growth, retention, concentration, workload, age and acquisition channel adjust the multiple. See the methodology for the distinction.
